Problems Screened For

In one simple test, the VisiScreen® OSS-C screens for a wide range of eye problems including most refractive errors, alignment errors, opacities (such as cataracts), and other visible eye abnormalities.

Refractive errors include:
Nearsightedness (myopia)
Farsightedness (hyperopia)
Astigmatisms (combination of near and farsightedness)
Anisometropia - a difference in the refractive power of the two eyes that can indicate or lead to amblyopia.

Alignment errors include:
Inward turning eye (esotropia)
Outward turning eye (exotropia)
Vertical misalignment (Hyper/Hypotropia)

Ocular media opacities include corneal, lenticular and vitreous opacities, including cataracts, and opacities that could indicate other ocular problems.

The system does not normally screen for against-the- rule astigmatism, diseases affecting the retina and optic nerve (unless they produce visibly abnormal reflexes), glaucoma, or color blindness.
